4. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can female candidates appear for NDA and CDS examinations?
Yes. Following landmark Supreme Court rulings and Ministry of Defence notifications, eligible female candidates can apply for all three wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA & NA) as well as the Combined Defence Services (CDS) for Short Service Commission (SSC) and Permanent Commission vacancies.
Q: What is the passing percentage in the 5-Day SSB Interview?
Services Selection Board (SSB) evaluation is strictly criterion-referenced based on 15 Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). There is no pre-fixed vacancy quota; only candidates who achieve the minimum qualifying recommendation score across the Psychological, GTO, and Interviewing Officer dimensions are recommended (historically 4% to 8% recommendation rate).
Q: Is laser eye surgery (LASIK/PRK) permitted for Indian Air Force pilot entry?
For Flying Branch (Pilots) through NDA, CDS, or AFCAT, candidates must meet strict natural visual acuity norms (6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in another correctable to 6/6). Refractive surgery (LASIK) is only permitted for certain ground duty branches and select CDS entries subject to age and cornea thickness guidelines.
Q: What is the starting rank and pay scale for a newly commissioned officer?
Cadets graduating from IMA, INA, AFA, or OTA are commissioned as Lieutenants (Army), Sub-Lieutenants (Navy), or Flying Officers (Air Force) in Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 - ₹1,77,500) plus Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹15,500 per month and extensive allowances.
